Spyglass is set to develop a new installment in the Scream horror movie franchise, with Christopher Landon chosen to direct. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Landon will direct, based on an earlier story first reported by Bloody Disgusting.

Landon, known for his work on the Happy Death Day films and Freaky, will take over from Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), who directed the 2022 reboot and the subsequent Scream VI. Landon, whose recent work includes We Have a Ghost on Netflix, has an established reputation in the horror genre and brings his expertise to the Scream franchise.

Radio Silence will remain involved as executive producers alongside Chad Villella, while the new film’s writing team is yet to be announced. The previous two movies in the franchise, distributed by Paramount, grossed $137.7 million and $168.9 million worldwide, respectively, and featured a fresh cast, including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Mason Gooding.

Sources indicate that many of the actors are expected to return for the new film once the ongoing writers and actors strikes are resolved. Barrera and Gooding are likely, while Ortega’s involvement remains to be seen, given her newfound fame after starring in Netflix’s Wednesday.

Bloody Disgusting previously reported that Radio Silence would not be directing Scream 7 due to scheduling conflicts.

The Scream series, known for its meta-commentary on horror, was originally directed by Wes Craven, with Kevin Williamson penning the first installment in 1996.
