UFC light heavyweight contender Ryan Spann isn’t feeling the nerves ahead of his first UFC main event, as he gets ready to face Anthony Smith at UFC Vegas 37.

Despite all of the ambiance and chaos that comes with fight week, Spann is feeling composed ahead of the big stage. During his pre-fight interview, Spann explained how he feels in the middle of one of his biggest fight weeks.

“I’m used to big fights and things of this nature, but it feels different because I feel different as a person,” Spann said. “I feel happier and healthier than I’ve ever been. The magnitude of the fight has nothing to do with it.”

“I have a lot of respect for [Anthony Smith] but I feel like the things my family and I have been able to do has allowed me to look at things in a more free way. I’m seeing the fruits of my labor now.”

Spann is back in the driver’s seat in the light heavyweight division after viciously knocking out Misha Cirkunov at UFC Vegas 21 earlier this year. A win over Smith could propel him to a potential No. 1 contender fight shortly.

Spann had been on the fast track to a light heavyweight title shot before suffering a devastating defeat to Johnny Walker at UFC Vegas 11. He has a well-rounded game with 16 of his wins coming by finish, including 11 submissions.

If Spann can seize the opportunity and put on another impressive performance against Smith, fans can expect to see him get the title shot sooner rather than later.

UFC Vegas 37 takes place on Saturday, Sept. 18, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your live results and highlights.
