Starfield’s “suggestive themes” are just one reason for ESRB Mature rating

“I’m all for getting a little wild, but next time let’s try it without the jetpacks,” is just one suggestive line the ESRB has mentioned for giving Starfield a Mature rating, alongside its use of violence, drugs, and more.Following Australia’s decision to give Starfield an R rating in March, the ESRB has now rated it Mature, due to the game’s depictions of blood, strong language, suggestive themes, use of drugs, and violence.What is Starfield’s age rating?With the Starfield release date creeping ever closer, the ESRB has now published the reasons it has given Bethesda’s upcoming space epic a Mature 17+ rating. Unsurprisingly, our adventure among the stars will see us battling a myriad of enemies including humans, aliens, and robots as we attempt to find artefacts for Constellation. Some of the weapons we’ll have at our disposal will be futuristic guns, lasers, and explosives, and those of you that would like to become space Vikings can look forward to wielding axes. According to the ESRB, “combat is fast-paced, with frequent gunfire, cries of pain, and explosions. Attacks on some enemies can result in blood-splatter effects; several environments depict blood stains on the ground around corpses.” Bad language can also be heard throughout.As was mentioned by the Australian rating board, Starfield features a drug known as Aurora (which we would presume is a bit like The Elder Scrolls’ Skooma), which you can steal or buy when exploring the universe for a “distortion effect on the screen.” What wasn’t mentioned before, though, is Starfield’s suggestive themes within its dialogue, which amusingly includes lines like “I’m all for getting a little wild, but next time let’s try it without the jetpacks” after sharing a bed with another character. Other lines mentioned by the ESRB include “Life is a sexually transmitted disease that’s a hundred percent fatal” and “Talk about seeing stars, whew… that was amazing.”Are you looking forward to strapping on a jetpack for a ride amongst the stars?
