In a new interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer discusses the Xbox team’s attitude to the future after the “knockback” of Redfall, saying, “I can only look forward.”In a new interview for Kinda Funny Xcast episode 137, Phil Spencer talks about the “knockback” of Redfall — Luke noted Redfall’s weak points in his Redfall review, noting that it piles pressure on Starfield to carry Xbox in 2023 — and notes that it’s the Xbox team’s “job to go and deliver on the next games.”Spencer acknowledges that “the Xbox community should demand a lot from us as a team”Around 25 minutes in, Spencer discusses how 2023 started out well for Xbox with launches like Hi-Fi Rush and Minecraft Legends, adding, “I feel like momentum is building and then something like Redfall happens.” Spencer agrees that “the Xbox community should demand a lot from us as a team… we’ve got the resources to do better,” explaining, “2023, we started well, and this was a knockback. But it’s our job to go and deliver on the next games. I can only look forward. I can sit here and wallow in my own frustration but all I can do is say I’m going to do better tomorrow than I did yesterday and continue to support the teams and continue to grow.”I think it is ours to prove that,” Spencer says, adding that he respects the frustration some Xbox fans feel on hearing him discuss the future. “We’ve got Starfield coming, we’ve got Forza coming, we’ve got Hellblade coming… I’m seeing very good builds of Avowed and stuff like that… I can see it, but until you have a controller in your hand, and you’re smiling from playing our games, none of my words should matter.”Avowed is set to be one of the major games coming to Game Pass, but we don’t have a hint of a release date for that one yet. Closer on the horizon is Starfield in September. What do you make of Spencer’s thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
