Carlos Vergara impressed UFC president Dana White with a violent first-round knockout during Week 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Carlos Vergara entered the octagon as a man laser-focused on potentially earning a UFC contract, and he accomplished that goal and more en route to a vicious first-round knockout over Bruno Korea during Week 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Vergara, the former Fury FC flyweight champion who faced a tough test against the more experienced Korea, began the fight with his hands flying and overwhelming Korea.
After landing a brutal knee to Korea’s liver, he poured it on by getting the clinch and landing a series of violent knees. Vergara would then land another knee to the liver that sent Korea falling to the canvas.
Many questioned whether or not Vergara deserved a shot on the show, but he silenced the doubters and has now won four fights in a row. As the Fury flyweight titleholder, he dominated his opponents with high-volume striking to go with his grappling that has improved drastically with each fight.
The UFC’s flyweight division may have a new star in Carlos Vergara
The 30-year-old Vergara could be a problem for the rest of the UFC flyweight division, after recording yet another highlight finish on DWCS. He seemed hell-bent on getting a UFC contract and putting on an impressive performance and got it done in cinematic fashion.
There’s no doubt that Vergara possesses a fan-friendly skillset as he awaits a potential shot on the sport’s biggest stage. After a quick night in the octagon, Vergara could make his UFC debut sooner rather than later.
