Torn Banner Studios and Shipwright Studios have distanced themselves from publisher Tripwire Interactive following boss John Gibson’s comment in support of the new Texas abortion law.Gibson tweeted saying he was proud of the US Supreme Court for refusing to block a new Texas law that bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The law also incentivises the citizens of Texas to sue abortion providers or anyone they suspect is “aiding and abetting” abortions past the six-week mark for at least $10,000 per defendant. The law makes no exceptions for rape or incest. Gibson said that he “felt it was important to go on the record as a pro-life game developer.”Developers who have worked with Tripwire were quick to denounce Gibson’s comment. Shipwright Studios, which worked on Tripwire-published titles Maneater and Chivalry 2, released a statement on Twitter saying it was cancelling all existing contracts with the publisher and it could no longer continue to work with Tripwire under its current leadership. Torn Banner Studios, developer of the Chivalry series, also tweeted saying that it does not share Gibson’s anti-abortion opinion and that his statement “stands in opposition to what we believe about women’s rights.”Numerous other notable people from the gaming industry have also condemned Gibson’s statement, including Cory Barlog and Cliff Bleszinski.
