Is Netflix’s mobile gaming push behind these Xbox Game Pass disappearances?

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics could follow in Stranger Things 3: The Game’s footsteps and be the next game based on a Netflix-produced series to be delisted from the Microsoft Store after it drops out of Xbox Game Pass this month. On August 31st, the day Stranger Things 3: The Game dropped out of Xbox Game Pass, the action-adventure title was swiftly delisted from the Microsoft Store. The developer and now publisher BonusXP offered no warning that the game would be removed from Microsoft’s storefront, though it did warn Steam and GoG users that the game would be delisted from sale on those platforms. Although the reason for the delisting is unclear, a notice over on the game’s Steam page says Stranger Things 3: The Game was removed “at the request of the publisher.” Netflix recently started testing mobile gaming on Android devices in Poland with two titles, including Stranger Things 3: The Game, so it’s possible that the game’s delisting from storefronts has something to do with Netflix’s new gaming venture. This leads us to The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, which will drop out of Xbox Game Pass on September 15th. The Tactics game is based on the Netflix-produced series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which was cancelled back in September 2020. It was also developed by the same developer as Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP) and published by En Masse Entertainment, which closed its doors last year. Considering all of this, it’s probably fair to assume that The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics could be delisted from the Microsoft Store on or around September 15th and incorporated into Netflix’s new mobile gaming service, though this has not been confirmed. If you’re worried about a possible delisting, and you want to complete The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, we recommend focusing on that over anything else, just in case the delisting does happen. We have reached out to the game’s developer to see what the deal is. If we hear anything back, we’ll let you know. Thanks to Judge for the heads-up!
