Celeste Creator’s Next Game, Earthblade, Gets First Look at The Game Awards

In an unexpected surprise at The Game Awards tonight, we got our first look at Earthblade – the next game from Celeste developer Extremely OK Games.Earthblade will be released in 2024; a more specific release window beyond that was not announced.EarthbladeEarthblade was first announced back in 2021 from Extremely OK head Maddy Thorson, who at the time asserted it was merely a “vibe reveal” and didn’t want to show too much of the story or gameplay just yet. We did learn at the time that Earthblade is a pixel art, 2D “explor-action” game slated for release sometime in “20XX” – so you know, sometime this century.There are a lot of high hopes for Earthblade, especially here at IGN where we gave Celeste a rare 10/10, saying its “incredible platforming, innumerable secrets, and emotionally genuine story make it a surprise triumph.”
