Best SMG Warzone: which submachine gun to use in Season 5

Byadmin

Aug 17, 2021

When it comes to picking the best SMG in Warzone, there are so many candidates to pick from since the Cold War guns made their way to the battle royale game. Warzone Season 4 Reloaded shattered the current Warzone long range meta by increasing the time-to-kill speed on every popular weapon.

For the longest time in Warzone, SMGs weren’t very popular as most players favoured assault rifles and the best Warzone guns like the AMAX. While the changes introduced in Season 4 Reloaded primarily affect assault rifles, the balance changes also targeted SMGs by reducing their damage output. These changes hit all of the popular SMGs, including the AK-74u, the Bullfrog, and even the Milano 821.

If you’re looking for a long-range option to compliment some of your best Warzone loadouts then here’s our guide to the best sniper in Warzone. However, when you reach the final circle or need to cross some close-quarters streets to reach the next zone you’ll be grateful you have the best SMG in Warzone.

Activision Blizzard is facing a lawsuit filed in July by the state of California alleging years of discrimination and harassment. Since then, CEO Bobby Kotick has called the company’s initial response “tone deaf”, employees have staged a walkout, Blizzard president J Allen Brack has left, and the ABK Workers Alliance has demanded change at the company. The lawsuit is ongoing; follow the latest developments here.

The Mac-10 SMG in Warzone's preview menu

Mac-10

The Mac-10 is a lethal weapon thanks to its high rate of fire along with the manageable recoil. With the right attachments, you can slap on a large magazine which will ensure you have enough bullets to take down multiple enemies at any given time. Despite going through numerous nerfs since the weapon made its debut in Warzone, the Mac-10 undeniably one of the best SMGs in the game. Give our best Mac-10 loadout a read to discover how to customise this powerful SMG.

LC10

The LC10 was added to the game with the Season 2 Reloaded update, but the SMG had a difficult time against some of the meta weapons in the game. Fast forward to Warzone Season 4 and the LC10 has become a staple of the long range meta. The LC10 has established itself as the best close range option for anyone with a sniper rifle in their loadout. Our best LC10 loadout highlights the exact attachments you’ll need to take this SMG to another level.

OTs 9

Despite all of the recent nerfs to the SMGs in Warzone Season 4 Reloaded, the best OTs 9 loadout feels much stronger than it has any right to be. The biggest selling point of the OTs 9 has to be the extremely low recoil, making it easy for accurate players to score numerous headshots within seconds. This weapon isn’t perfect as you have to deal with magazines filled with just 40 bullets – a far cry from the Bullfrog’s whopping 65 round clips.

The new Tec-9 SMG in Call of Duty Warzone's preview menu

Tec-9

Season 5’s new SMG has surprised the community with its versatility. Unlike the rest of the SMGs in this list, the Tec-9 requires the Full Auto Repeater attachment to transform into a regular SMG. Give our Tec-9 loadout a read to see how you should put together this deadly close ranged weapon.

PPSh-41

After receiving a buff in the Warzone Season 3 Reloaded update, the PPSh-41 is now one of the best SMGs in Warzone. The buff to the weapon’s damage range and overall damage has given it an advantage over many of the SMGs in this list. It’s important to remember that the best PPSh loadout was already a highly mobile weapon, just falling short behind the Mac-10 as the most lightweight SMG. If you’re looking for mobility and damage, the PPSh is a great choice.

Bullfrog

If you want a gun that features almost as many bullets as an LMG, you won’t find anything better than the Bullfrog. Most SMGs suffer the same problem after killing an enemy, no matter how accurate you are, you will most likely have to reload your weapon. Our best Bullfrog loadout equips magazines that can hold 85 bullets, and we’ve increased the damage range on this SMG to allow this weapon to dominate at short to medium distances.

Best Warzone MP5 setup

Cold War MP5

Compared to Modern Warfare’s MP5, Cold War’s MP5 slightly edges out its predecessor by improving on a number of key details. The TTK is higher, as is the ADS speed, and the recoil is easier to control. Again, there isn’t a huge difference between the two weapons, but if you want the competitive edge, the CW MP5 is the obvious pick. Be sure to check out our best MP5 Warzone setup to find the correct attachments for both weapons.

Modern Warfare MP5

The MP5 has the superior time to kill when compared to the MP7, but it falls ever so slightly short because it’s harder to land those shots and you can only upgrade it to a maximum mag capacity of 40 rounds. The 10mm conversion kit doesn’t increase your TTK on paper, but it will extend your effective range considerably. We’ve got a best MP5 Warzone setup if you’re looking for the best attachments. If you’re confident in your ability to win gunfights then you should always take this as your Warzone SMG.

Milano 821

Don’t let this weapon’s miniature size fool you, this SMG is dangerous at both close and long range. This is one of the few SMGs in the game that you can use an Axial Arms 3x scope without having to deal with obscene amounts of recoil. Use our best Milano loadout and try out two different loadouts to match your favourite setups.

NAIL GUN

The Nail Gun was introduced at the beginning of Warzone Season 4 and immediately managed to top the list as the best SMG in Warzone. Unsurprisingly, the weapon’s effective damage range was nerfed to make it worse from a distance. The Nail Gun is still worth using at close range, though you will have to use it like a shotgun.

Aug Warzone setup

AUG

This comes with the hefty caveat that the AUG is only worth running if you can equip it with the 5.56 NATO 60-round conversion mag – although recently we’ve had a lot of success with this more mobile AUG Warzone setup. Ordinarily it’s actually quite subpar, but with 60 of these more damaging rounds in a single mag the AUG becomes one of the best SMGs in Warzone – despite the fact that it’s basically an assault rifle. It’s easy to control, downs fast, and has enough ammo to theoretically wipe a whole team without needing to reload.

P90

This SMG is tragically overlooked in Warzone and multiplayer. Like the Bizon, it boasts a high-capacity magazine by default, but interestingly you can extend the range and improve the accuracy of the P90 drastically. The P90’s basic iron sights are also crisp and clean, ensuring you never need to spend an attachment slot on an optic.

MP7

The MP7 is actually worse than the MP5 on paper, but when you factor in its potential mag size upgrades, almost non-existent recoil, and superb hip-fire accuracy you have one of best close-quarters weapons in the game.

Sure, it’s not got the best DPS for a Warzone SMG, but it spits out rounds at an eye-watering rate and can equip a 60-round mag – in Warzone this means you can enter fights with confidence and put plenty of pressure on the opponent. If you want the ultimate build then check out our best MP7 Warzone setup for a blueprint to copy. It’s also much, much easier to use than the MP5.

FENNEC

The Fennec has the fastest rate of fire of any SMG in Warzone, making it a very strong weapon for clearing out buildings and 1v1 battles. It’s theoretical time-to-kill is only matched by the MP5, but due to the low recoil and high rate of fire of the Fennec, you’ll find that converting on that TTK is easier. Aim for centre mass and enemies will drop in no time.

More help? Here are the best assault rifles in Warzone

The max mag size of 40 rounds will seem limiting at first, but this SMG is so efficient at coping with close-range targets that you’ll often be able to down two enemies and scarper for a safe reload before anyone knows what’s happened. One thing to note: the Fennec’s bullet velocity and damage range are atrocious so make sure you’ve got the best assault rifle in Warzone for mid-range battles. Check out our Fennec Warzone setup for a powerful spec.

Uzi

Anyone who has used this in multiplayer should be aware of its issues: slow rate of fire, middling damage per shot, and some bizarre recoil patterns. However, with a particular conversion kit this becomes a surprisingly effective SMG, especially between short and mid range. Highly skilled Warzone players could justify putting this into their top five SMGs, but as it’s so tricky to use, we’ve put it closer to the bottom of the pile. For the best spec, check out our best Warzone Uzi loadout.

BIZON

The high-capacity starting mag seems like the biggest perk, but it’s actually the almost non-existent recoil that makes this SMG so good. The Bizon makes up for its subpar damage with accuracy and consistency – you will have no problem landing shots, although it might take a little longer than you’d like to secure the down.

Our best Warzone Bizon loadout will help you make this off-meta weapon feel powerful.

Striker 45

Unfortunately the return of the UMP to Modern Warfare is not a triumphant one. It’s outclassed in practically every area, although it’s reasonably easy to control and is one of the better options over medium range.

AK74u

Introduced in Cold War, this SMG may be highly effective in the multiplayer mode but the same can’t be said for Warzone. Players in the battle royale mode can stack armour plates to effectively double their health, making the AK74u ineffective compared to its rivals in the same bracket. Unlike the other guns in this list, the rate of fire on the AK74u is on the slower end which increases the TTK drastically.

For a slightly different close-range option, we also rate Akimbo pistols in Warzone very highly – unfortunately the 357 Snake Shot Warzone setup has just been nerfed, so stick to the Renetti. Alternatively, our best Warzone Origin 12 loadout is now becoming very popular for clearing out rooms.
