I have reviewed plenty of robot vacuum cleaners and cordless cleaners, but this is my first carpet cleaner.
For better or worse, our two living areas and bedrooms are carpeted. I prefer carpets, but they are also a bit disgusting compared to hard surfaces. A vacuum is never going to clean them thoroughly, and we, therefore, need to use a proper carpet cleaner every few weeks. Cheap carpet cleaners never seem to do the job thoroughly enough, and paying a professional to do it gets expensive over time.
The Tineco range of cleaners are some of the most advanced options for consumer carpet cleaners, with the Carpet One Pro being the flagship model. Not only does this have superb cleaning performance, but it has both an app and an LCD display which will provide full guidance during the cleaning process.

Tineco has three smart carpet cleaners, all of which are quite similar. The Pro model I have been reviewing is the top of the range.

Differences
The two Carpet One cleaners have LCD displays, but the Pro version’s screen is more advanced with 3D animations. Both of these have a dirt indicator which changes from blue to red when they detect increased levels of dirt. The iLoop sensor, which provides the dirt level information, will then intelligently adjust the level of water flow and suction. By default, it stays at 20% but ramps up the more dirt it detects.
The iCARPET has basic light-up icons which provide some simple feedback. It also lacks both voice guidance and the iLoop sensor. I’d say the iLoop sensor is the main thing you would miss on this model.
Assembly / Set Up
The cleaner comes mostly assembled. There is just the two water chambers to attach and the handle. When you power it up, you will be greeted with a 3D animation on the LCD display, and the cleaner will begin the guided walkthrough. I found this was quite useful as carpet cleaners are not quite as intuitive as a normal vacuum cleaner.
Using the Tineco app, you can connect the carpet cleaner to WiFi and have some added functionality via you phone.
App
I am not entirely sure about the need for an app with this carpet cleaner. The LCD display, voice guidance and controls on the device do pretty much all the things you need.
The only thing I found useful was being able to turn down the volume for the voice guidance.
Visual & Voice Guidance
The Pro model has a full-colour LCD display which will guide you through the set-up process and then also provide visual guidance during cleaning. This is accompanied by voice guidance, and the speaker is quite loud.
The visual guidance will also be used to help diagnose any errors, should you experience them.
The voice guidance is genuinely useful, telling me when empty the dirty water tank, when the clean water tank needs refilling or when to clean out the dirty water tub. However, it is also a bit annoying, and it does feel like you are getting nagged. There is a small button on the back of the vacuum you can press to disable the voice guidance.
Carpet Cleaning
This does what it is designed to do amazingly well. It haven’t cleaned the carpets in a while, and the by the colour of the dirty water, it would seem that they were well due a good clean.
One big selling point with this cleaner is the fact it heats the water for you, whereas many competing cleaners require you to fill the tank with hot water and complete the cleaning before it is cold.
The visual guide helps you identify spots that need some extra attention. At first, I wasn’t entirely convinced at how accurate it was. When I used it in max mode, it seemed like it would flash up red but then immediately be blue when I went over the dirty spot again quickly.
However, I then tested it on my hallway carpet using auto mode. This is a carpet from the previous owner, and we had just had our loft converted, where a significant amount of dust had dropped down onto the carpet. I had previously cleaned up the visible dirt with the Jimmy H9 Pro and gone over it a second time with my Vorwerk Kobold VK200.
The Carpet One Pro immediately identified that this area was very dirty, and with the auto mode, it would ramp up the cleaning. The red dirt indicator would then slowly go down as it identified less dirt. When it came to emptying the dirty water tank, I was disgusted at how much dirt had been extracted. There was a surprising amount of sediment in the tank too, which proves that no matter how good a vacuum cleaner is, it won’t remove all of the physical dirt.
The clean water tank is 2 litres while the dirty water is 1.5 litres. This seems to be on the small side compared with other devices, and when I used it in max mode, I did find it quickly filled the dirty water tank. However, thanks to the iLoop function and the auto mode, you can clean a much larger area before needing to clean out and refill.
Removing the dirty water tank and cleaning it out is easy enough. It has a handle that you pull, and it then detaches from the body. The clean water tank works in a similar manner.
The handheld attachment is handy for spot cleaning, or in my case, I used it to clean my couch. It doesn’t work quite the same way as the main cleaner. The head works just like a vacuum, you then have a trigger which squirts out clean water from just under the vacuum part. It didn’t seem like this would be very effective, but the end result was still impressive.
The noise level was OK, it is quieter than other carpet cleaners, but it is still very loud and louder than a typical vacuum cleaner.
Carpet Drying
This also has a built-in drying mode which you won’t find on a lot of competing cleaners. This switches off the water and increases the temperature to 75°C, and claims to be able to dry a carpet with 5 passes. This does seem to work as advertised, I found that areas where I had used auto mode at 20%, didn’t need a great deal of drying, but areas where I had used max mode, required a few more passes before the carpet felt almost dry.
Price and Alternative Options
The Tineco Carpet One Pro is priced at £599, which possibly makes it the most expensive consumer carpet cleaner on the market.

The none pro model, which has a less impressive LCD display, is £499.
The iCARPET is another £100 less at £299, and this omits the iLoop dust sensor and voice assistant and has a basic LCD display.
At a similar price, there is the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 Upright Carpet Cleaner for £579, which is geared more toward commercial use. This lacks heated water and drying
The next most expensive consumer cleaner is the VAX Platinum SmartWash Carpet Cleaner at £299. It lacks smart features and has slightly less power at 1300W rating, but it can also do drying.
Overall
I like the Tineco Carpet One Pro smart carpet cleaner a lot. I am both impressed with its performance and disgusted at how dirty my carpets were.
The heated water and iLoop technology massively simplify the cleaning process, and the heated drying avoids the need to tactically clean rooms, giving them enough time to dry.
The visual guidance via the LCD display and vocal prompts are unique features that make this stand out from the crowd. It certainly made the first clean easy to do without me having to consult the instructions. The vocal prompts do start to feel like you are being nagged, but it ensures you keep the machine running properly.
The smart features come with a premium price tag. The Pro model is double the price of the iCARPET, but the only benefit in cleaning performance is the iLoop technology, which makes this cleaner feel a bit overpriced.
