As the holiday season approaches, so to do the inevitable camera announcements we’re accustomed to seeing this time of year. While we don’t have any definitive signs of camera (and lenses) yet to come, both OM Digital Solutions and Sony have teased in-person events wherein they’re believed to be releasing new imaging products.
Sony’s Creative Space 2022 event will take place in New York City, New York from October 27–28. ‘Some of the greatest names in photography, video, and film will share their knowledge and creativity directly with you,’ says Sony in in the event description, adding ‘The event is free and only requires registration.’
While no explicit mention of camera gear is mentioned, the October 27–28 timeframe lines up with various rumors suggesting Sony will release its next full-frame E-mount camera on around that time. In particular, Mirrorless Rumors suggests the Sony a7R V will be launched the day before the event, on October 26, 2022.
Meanwhile, across the Pacific Ocean, OM Digital Solutions is hosting the OM System Plaza Fan Event from October 29 through October 30 in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Again, no specific mention is made of any forthcoming cameras, but various rumors have suggested Olympus’ next-generation OM-5 Micro Four Thirds camera will be released sometime before or during this event.
Considering OMDS is having limited hands-on sessions with OM System camera gear on October 29 for those who sign up in advance, it’d make sense to launch it either earlier that day or a day in advance to get the newest gear in consumers hands.
Whatever happens over the course of the last week in October, it’s shaping up to be an interesting one.
