In front of his hometown at UFC 265, Derrick Lewis has the chance to claim a UFC championship when he and the undefeated Ciryl Gane battle in the main event for the interim UFC heavyweight title.
A scheduling conflict left current champion Francis Ngannou unable to make a title defense against Lewis this month.
Lewis challenged Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight title back at UFC 230, losing via second-round submission.
Lewis was finished by Junior dos Santos in March 2019 but has since won four straight, taking decisions over Blagoy Ivanov and Ilir Latifi, a second-round TKO of Aleksei Oleinik and an upset, second-round knockout of Curtis Blaydes.
Gane, who went unbeaten in Muay Thai prior to turning to MMA, won the TKO heavyweight title in his first professional MMA fight and made two defenses of it prior to entering the UFC.
After an impressive rookie year in 2019, the last eight months or so for Gane has seen him finish dos Santos and dominate Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexader Volkov in decisions.
