God Of War Ragnarok Combat Adds Weapon Signature Moves, New Shield Abilities

God of War Ragnarok developer Sony Santa Monica Studio has shared new details on the game’s combat, specifically the addition of Weapon Signature Moves to flesh out Kratos’ limb-slicing shenanigans in battle.Speaking with Game Informer, Mihir Sheth and Denny Yeh, lead combat designers on God of War Ragnarok, had the following to say about the new feature:In the last game, if you pressed Triangle, you recalled the axe, but if you already had the axe, nothing happened. If you had the Blades of Chaos and you pressed Triangle, you just went back to the axe. We looked at that concept and wondered, ‘What if you could do something a little bit different with that button – a whole new suite of moves.’Weapon Signature Moves allow Kratos to infuse each weapon with elemental powers such as ice and fire. For example, the Leviathan Axe can be powered up with Frost Awaken, while the Blades of Chaos can adopt the Whiplash ability.Meanwhile, shields have also been tinkered with so that they function differently. An example is the Dauntless Shield, which is tailored towards high-skill players; parrying at the last minute will cause it to glow red, which means players can then deliver a smash attack to enemies and stun them.God of War Ragnarok is pencilled in for release on November 9, 2022 for PS5 and PS4.[Source – Game Informer]
