Elden Ring developer receives further investment from Tencent and Sony

Sony and Tencent have increased their stakes in Elden Ring developer FromSoftware and now own a combined 30% of the Japanese company.As announced in an official notice by FromSoftware’s parent company Kadokawa Corporation, Sony now owns 14.09% of the Elden Ring developer, while Tencent, through its Sixjoy subsidiary, has acquired 16.25%. Kadokawa remains the majority shareholder of FromSoftware with 69.66%.Sony and Tencent increase stakes in FromSoftwareIn the notice, Kadokawa explained that FromSoftware “will aim to proactively invest in development of more powerful game IP for itself to strengthen FromSoftware’s development capabilities and will seek to establish a framework that allows the expansion of the scope of its own publishing in the significantly growing global market.” It also highlights Tencent’s “strength in its capabilities to develop and deploy mobile games and other network technologies in the global market,” which could suggest FromSoftware may be looking at creating mobile games.
