Serena Williams’ opening match in what is likely to be her last appearance at the US Open brought all the stars out to watch.

Serena Williams is getting ready to leave tennis behind, but first, she’s putting everything she can into the 2022 US Open.

With the possibility of witnessing Williams’ final match of her career, celebrities from all fields made sure to snag a ticket to Monday’s match.

Williams battled Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic to a 6-3, 6-3 victory to advance to the second round and delay her retirement a bit longer.

There’s no doubt the celebrities among the announced 29,402 attendees on hand were delighted to see it.

Williams, who is 40, is the fourth woman to win a match as a teenage, in her 20s, 30s and then 40s, joining Venus Williams, Martina Navratilova and Kimiko Date in that elite company.

She will continue her pursuit of a seventh US Open title in the second round. And it’s a near certainty the crowd will be just as star-studded for that one.
