DWCS week 6: Kinoshita vs. Henrique Souza weigh-in results.
On Monday, Aug. 29, 10 new prospects in MMA will step on the scale to lock in their shots at the big show on Dana White’s Contender Series week 6.
DWCS is coming fresh off the heels of an exhilarating week5 where underdogs owned the night. Three dogs scored consecutive finishes, including Darrius Flowers’ insane slam TKO. The night ended with four finishes and five contracts rewarded. This week’s crop of fighters will also be looking to bring the action needed to earn themselves a UFC contract.
The featured bout of DWCS week 6 is a welterweight showdown between Yusaku Kinoshita (5-1) and José “Canela” Henrique Souza (5-0). Kinoshita is Tapology’s No. 7-ranked welterweight in Japan and carries a 100 percent finishing rate with three KOs and two submissions, his only loss coming via DQ for a fence grab. Henrique has fought all five of his pro bouts at middleweight but will make his first cut to 170 pounds on Tuesday for his shot at the UFC. Henrique boasts three finishes on his record, all by KO/TKO.
On DWCS week 6, prospects from five weight divisions will throwdown for a chance to compete in the UFC
The opening bout of the card is a featherweight scrap between Alex “The Chess Master” Morgan (11-4) and Blake Bilder (6-0-1). Bilder currently holds the Cage Fury FC Featherweight title, but he will face his most experienced opponent to date in Morgan, Tapology’s No. 1-ranked Canadian featherweight.
The second fight of the night will feature two strawweights, Viktoriya Dudakova (5-0) and Maria “Viúva Negra” Silva (8-0). Then lightweights will take the stage as Rodrigo “The Dynamis” Lídio (12-2) and Mateusz “Chińczyk” Rębecki (15-1) will battle it out for a spot on the UFC roster.
The final fight before the featured bout will be a light-heavyweight clash between Matěj “Money” Peňáz (6-0) and Sedriques “The Reaper” Dumas (6-0). Peňáz will look to follow in the footsteps of Jiří Procházka, the current UFC Light-Heavyweight World Champion, and become just the sixth UFC fighter from the Czech Republic. But first, he will have to get through fellow undefeated prospect, Dumas.
