Nothing Phone (1) update brings UI and charging improvements

Nothing is rolling out version 1.1.2 for the Nothing OS (1) for the Phone (1). It’s a minor update but brings some useful improvements to the phone.

The always-on display feature will now by have the custom schedule on by default. This means the feature will automatically turn itself off at night. The user can still manually change this to be on all the time but it’s no longer the default behavior.

Change log. Note the lighter shade of gray for the background in the updated version.

This update also added an option to make the fingerprint icon appear when the display is switched off and you move the phone slightly. However, for whatever reason, this option does absolutely nothing on our review unit. The fingerprint sensor itself does seem a bit faster after the update.

The update also claims to improve charging performance and compatibility with 3rd party chargers. We were not able to confirm the improvement in charging speed and we are not sure what improved compatibility with 3rd party chargers means precisely as the phone worked fine with all the chargers we tried.

The update also claims to resolve Bluetooth codec issue. We did not have this issue so we cannot confirm if anything has changed.

The update also claims to have optimized minor UI details and introduced general bug fixes and stability improvements.

Unfortunately, some of the other issues with the phone remain unresolved. The audio quality issues we brought up in our review are still present. The face unlock is extremely unreliable and shows no improvement. Still, the phone is otherwise quite stable and it’s good to see it get frequent updates.
