Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I thought about taking the day off since it’s a holiday in the United States, but that’s exactly the kind of day where some people need something to read, isn’t it? So here I am, with a nice list of game updates for you to have a gander at. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

LEGO® Star Wars™: Castaways,

Another LEGO Star Wars Castaways update, another event tied in with a Star Wars thing. It looks like this time around we’re dipping into the world of Star Wars: Rebels, allowing you to earn minifig parts for the main characters from the show. There are also some new alien species customizations like the Twi’lek and Lasat. Nice to see more fan favorite characters and character types coming to the game.

Tiny Tower: 8 Bit Retro Tycoon, Free

Tiny Tower celebrates the Fourth of July with a bang in its latest update. A special event is going on where you can find fireworks and set them off to earn free goodies, some of which are distinctly USA-themed. Your tower will also be decked out in American flags and hamburger value meals, among other decorations. This update also adds a new research mechanic to sink resources into. The Independence Day event is limited, but those tech trees and points will be around from here on out.

Vigil RPG, $1.99

This new update for Vigil RPG adds haptic feedback to the game, because why not? Now you can feel those big hits from the monsters. It also fixes a text display issue and improves some of the UI elements to give you better information. A good enough reason to play the game again, and if you haven’t checked it out before, consider this your cue.

SP!NG,

SPexclamationpointING has some new levels, as is usually the case when a new update arrives for this game. Swing around like there’s no tomorrow in the spiffy new seventh chapter of the extremely creative Lost Levels set. You’ll have to bring all your SP!ING experience and skills to the table to conquer these. I have faith in you. Complete and utter faith. Just let me set up this net before you get going. And this plastic sheet for the audience. Okay, go.

LEGO® Brawls,

Mystery Bags! Everyone loves a mystery bag. It could have something you want in it! Probably not, but it could! Certainly, mystery bags aren’t a repository for unsold and overproduced items that shops can’t otherwise move. Well, given there’s no physical inventory in mobile games, I’m sure mystery bags are free to be what they optimally should be. Particularly when the game isn’t a free-to-play game. You can earn up to three Mystery Bags per week in LEGO Brawls now, simply by doing some brawls. You were probably going to do that anyway! Aside from those new goodies, this latest version fixes some bugs and makes some performance improvements.

Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free

This game is starting to look a bit overshadowed now that Mirrorverse is widely available, but it’s not finished yet by any means. There are a couple of new playable characters in this version of the game, and they’re decently deep pulls. From Kim Possible comes Duff Killigan, the irate Scotsman who fancies himself the World’s Deadliest Golfer. Guess he’s never seen me swing a club. The other new character comes from Disney’s Atlantis, and is in fact one of the main characters of the movie. Milo Thatch is here to, I don’t know, research the opponents to death or something. Insert the usual bug fixes and improvements and we’re all set to move along.

CLAP HANZ GOLF,

Before this game, developer ClapHanz was best known for its Hot Shots/Everybody’s Golf games for various PlayStation platforms. That is relevant information because this latest update brings Clap Hanz Golf a little bit closer to that legacy. There’s now a Triple Tap shot type, which you may know as the standard style seen in most golf video games since… I think Nintendo’s Golf on the NES? There’s also a new playable character here, a new mode, some new caddie costumes, and more. I’m going to give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week, because I like Triple Tap that much. Mario Golf Super Rush, please take note.

Spire Blast,

I guess this is vaguely free-ish enough and puzzle-ish enough to count as this week’s obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle update. I’ll level with you: I forgot about including it, and I’m now trying to make lemonade from my own sour lemons. At any rate, this update adds in twenty new levels set in the Enchanted Woods, plus some new flytrap enemies that will snatch away balls they can. Rounding things out is a bit of polish, a bit of bug fixing, and a bit of performance improvement. That’s about what you would want in an update, I reckon.

MARVEL Puzzle Quest: Hero RPG, Free

Oh wait, right, this is a free-to-play matching puzzle game. Okay, we’re covered either way now. The Gargantos Boss event is back! Remember Gargantos? The legally-distinct eye monster who has never heard of Shuma-Gorath in its life? In that Doctor Strange movie that everyone watched in the first weekend and then agreed to never watch again? Yes, that one. Back. Nice. This version also has some free rewards related to Marvel’s Hellfire Gala, plus a Jean Grey (Phoenix) PVP Arena and the return of Puzzle Ops. Good, good.

Subway Surfers, Free

We’ll close things out with a game that is no stranger to these virtual pages, Subway Surfers. This time the kids are headed to Iceland for a sunny summer vacation. Try out the Super Runner Staged Challenge and see if you can get Super Runner Fresh and his Boombastic Board for your collection of characters. Play the Season Hunt mode and you can aim to unlock Clementine and her Frosty Outfit, or wade into the World Tour Events and try out some classic locations from the past.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
