Javy Baez and Amir Garrett renew feud, with Riley Greene getting the last laugh

Javy Baez and Amir Garrett couldn’t help themselves, renewing a years-old feud that Riley Greene effectively ended on Saturday night.

Greene said enough.

Sure, the Tigers remain an American League laughingstock, but Greene is one of the few bright spots. In Saturday night’s matchup with the Royals, Greene hit a walk-off home run to send fans at Comerica Park home happy.

Who does Detroit have to thank for Greene’s emphatic bomb? How about Amir Garrett, reliever for the Royals?

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Garrett celebrated a strikeout of Greene a little too enthusiastically.

Like, it’s fine, but Greene is still a rookie and that pitch was arguably low! Javy Baez wasn’t thrilled with the reaction, as he was in the on-deck circle. The jawing continued to the top half of the next frame.

“He can do whatever he wants,” Baez said postgame, according to the Detroit News’ Chris McCosky. “I got nothing. It’s part of his game, and he knows my game.”

This isn’t the first time Baez and Garrett have gotten into it.

In May of 2021, Garrett and Baez were involved in a benches-clearing incident. Garrett received a five-game suspension. Garrett was on the Reds at the time, while Javy was on the Cubs.

Javy hit a walk-off home run a few days later and taunted Garrett, thus adding to the chaos.

The Tigers and Royals play 14 more times this season. Undoubtedly, it won’t be the last time these two face off.
