With a whole year of gaming ahead, here are our most-anticipated Xbox games for 2025. Since there are so many games on the way, not to mention some major upcoming Game Pass games, it seems a good time to narrow things down to the titles we’re most excited for — let’s begin! Most anticipated games coming to Xbox in 2025We’ve had some excellent games over the last year and it looks like things will only be picking up steam in 2025. It feels great to be able to talk about these games as arriving this year since several (looking at you, GTA 6) have been highly anticipated for a long time now. Whether you’ve got your eye on upcoming Xbox exclusives or the wider playing field of everything coming to Game Pass, there’s plenty on the way for everyone. Here are our most-anticipated picks!Heidi — Fable Why not bookmark the Fable achievements page ready for when they drop?Release window: 2025Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PCGame Pass? YesI have been looking forward to Fable ever since that first teaser trailer, almost five (!) years ago, where nothing but a voiceover, an epic backdrop, and a fairy unfortunately being swallowed by a toad was enough to get us all hyped for a Fable reboot. We’ve seen several excellent trailers since then (bolstered by choice appearances from Matt King — Peep Show’s Super Hans — among others) which have looked very promising. Those trailers had a few gameplay snippets sprinkled in, and we’re hoping to see much more soon now that Fable’s down for a 2025 launch. It’s going to be one of the biggest releases of the year and sees our character juggling their heroic reputation and a new dark threat to Albion. We’ve been waiting for and writing about this one for so long that it seems bizarre we might get to play it next year — bring on Fable 4! Heidi — Kingdom Come: Deliverance III can’t wait for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The first game was such a breath of fresh air — I normally love magic and dragons in a medieval setting, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance leaned into the historical setting and realistic aspects (with quests even revolving around Henry learning to read) and made a huge success of it.The sequel sees Henry of Skalitz once again roaming about 15th-century Bohemia. That theme of revenge still plays into Henry’s story, but while his travels in the first game often introduced him to some of the biggest figures and most serious issues of the time, one of his best skills is bumbling into all walks of life and finding some great (and entirely silly) adventures on the way. I’m hoping for more of that in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.The only thing that held back the first game at all was that it got ahead of itself with its ambitions. It was still incredible, despite its bugs and rough edges, and with the sequel having the chance to build on and improve upon what came before, I can’t wait to see what medieval mayhem Henry’s going to get up to.Tom — Battlefield 6Release date: TBCPlatforms: Likely Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5Game Pass? No I’ve always loved the Battlefield series ever since Battlefield 1942 started it all in 2002, and have jumped into every new entry at launch ever since — I still naively dream of another 2142-style entry. Anyway, back to the topic at hand…Following the poor reception Battlefield 2042 received, DICE appears to be listening to its fans and I can’t wait to see what the team delivers with Battlefield 6. It doesn’t have a release window yet, but the consensus is that it’ll be released sometime in October 2025 alongside a free-to-play Warzone-style spin-off. So far, we know that Battlefield 6 will be dropping the Specialist system and bringing back classes, and we should see maps more akin to the classic games, so 64-player matches could be a focus again. Other than that, EA is keeping things close to its chest, but reports suggest we’ll get a single-player campaign again, so that could be something exciting to look forward to. I couldn’t even guess how many hours I’ve put into this franchise since I was 11 — I’m not sure if I’d want to know!Tom — Doom: The Dark AgesWhy not bookmark the Doom: The Dark Ages achievements page ready for when they drop?Release window: 2025Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PCGame Pass? YesWe all saw the Doom: The Dark Ages reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase in June, right? I mean, there is absolutely nothing in that trailer that doesn’t appeal to me; slaughtering Hellspawn in a medieval setting with a glorious range of weaponry makes for a relaxing evening well spent. In less than two minutes, that trailer gives us a look at the Doom Slayer shredding demons with a razor-rimmed shield, a flail, a bone-shredding Skull Crusher… oh, and a Mecha Drago! Did I mention the Atlan — the colossal mecha you can battle behemoth-size demons in? Well, yep, that’s in there too. Doom: The Dark Ages looks like a bloodthirsty thrill ride, and I can’t wait to bring the pain to any demons daring to stand in my way.We don’t have a release date yet, but Doom: The Dark Ages launches on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and drops into Xbox Game Pass some time in 2025. Let’s go, Slayers! Sean — Grand Theft Auto VII don’t think an explanation is needed here — Rockstar releasing a new game is always a monumental event and one that I always look forward to. With Grand Theft Auto VI however, somehow, Rockstar has to eclipse one of the greatest games of all time with GTA 5. How it’s going to do that, I don’t have a clue, but I can’t wait to explore whatever is on the way. Having a large, detailed, open world to explore that’s filled with secrets, violence, and exciting missions to complete never gets old. That’s especially true when it’s been crafted to Rockstar’s usual high standards (let’s just forget about those Definitive Edition ports). I’m also looking forward to whatever Rockstar has in store for GTA 6 Online. I lost hundreds of hours playing GTA Online with my pals, all without ever spending a penny on ridiculous microtransactions, and I hope I can relive that experience once more. Sean — Sniper Elite ResistanceWhy not bookmark the Sniper Elite: Resistance achievements page ready for when they drop?Release date: January 30, 2025Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4Game Pass? YesI love the Sniper Elite series; I mean, who doesn’t love shooting Nazis in the bollocks with that glorious X-ray kill cam? Thankfully, Rebellion is bringing a new entry in the franchise to Game Pass in January with Sniper Elite Resistance, and we get to experience a new campaign set during World War II and explore a bunch of new sandbox environments that are primed for stealthy sniping shenanigans.I recently played Sniper Elite Resistance, and it’s pretty much more of Sniper Elite 5, which is only a good thing. You’re let loose in a large open area to complete optional missions to also tick off your list. While it’s easier to creep through a level and dispatch Nazi soldiers slowly and methodically, you can cause mayhem by going loud with machine guns and explosives — the choice is yours. That being said, there is a new mission type that I didn’t get to experience called Propaganda missions. Here, you will locate propaganda posters hidden across a map and step into the shoes of a French Resistance fighter to complete special objectives, such as killing a certain number of enemies without being spotted or using a specific loadout. It sounds fun and only adds another interesting mechanic to the world of Sniper Elite. Those are our top picks for our most-anticipated games coming to Xbox in 2025 — how about you? Any upcoming major releases you’re excited about, or anything that might be a contender for the best Game Pass games? Let us know in the comments!
