With Matt Rhule out as the Carolina Panthers head coach, he becomes a top candidate for many vacancies in the college game.
It took a few years, but Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper finally learned that Matt Rhule is a college coach and not cut out for the NFL.
This is not the end of the world for Rhule. Many elite college coaches have fizzled out in the NFL before him and others will do the same after him. In the meantime, he needs to get his resume sorted out, as he will be a top candidate for many of the marquee vacancies in the college game. He will almost certainly resurface at a Power Five job. The man knows how to build up a program.
Here are five college jobs Rhule would totally crush if he were to be hired as their next head coach.

Brent Key is thriving as the interim, but Matt Rhule could uplift Georgia Tech, too
The best thing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets did was kick Geoff Collins to the curb. He was as awkward as the day was long. Although the Ramblin’ Wreck are somehow winning games under interim Brent Key, we have to wonder if Todd Stansbury’s successor will remove the tag on the former Georgia Tech offensive linemen. Key might be the key to everything, but Rhule is out there.
Georgia Tech is not in as bad of shape as Temple and Baylor where when he arrived in Philadelphia and Waco two and three jobs ago. However, does Rhule really want all that entails with calling the college football capital of the world (Atlanta, Georgia) home? Georgia is a talent-rich state, but the reigning national champions are right up the road in Athens. Rhule can succeed, but this is so hard.
If Key were struggling as the interim coach, it would be easier to connect Rhule to this job opening.
