ESTNN breaks down the upcoming FNCS All-Star Showdown Play-In, Skills Challenge and Solo Championship.

The Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) competition did not lay dormant very long after arguably the most intense competition to date. Mere weeks ago, competitive Fortnite crowned seven champions, distributed $3M USD and handed out 21 in-game Axe of Champion rewards. Now, the best Fortnite players in the world have another stage to showcase their skills and another $3M USD to compete for in the FNCS All-Star Showdown.

Epic Games announced this first-of-its-kind event in Chapter 2 – Season 6. With promises of skill challenges and more exciting ideas, fans and players were unsure what to expect. The developers have now answered every possible question. On the heels of Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 7’s release, the top competitive players from FNCS Season 5 and Season 6 have guaranteed themselves a spot in this star-studded event. In fact, 90 players per region earned the privilege of competing for more money and bragging rights.

Without any further ado, let’s take a look at the many offerings of the upcoming FNCS All-Star Showdown.

Play-In Round Format & Scoring System (June 18-20)

The majority of the FNCS All-Star Showdown’s field is contingent on past FNCS performances. Across all regions, the top 15 trios each received individual invitations to the tournament. However, many teams placed inside the top 15 twice, leaving some spots remaining in the All-Star Showdown.

That is where the Solo All-Star Play-In comes into effect. With $3M USD up for grabs in the All-Star Showdown, Epic Games opened up a small batch of positions for hopeful competitors in each region. The Solo All-Star Play-In will occur from June 18 to June 20, where players will compete in four rounds of intense action in hopes of grabbing one of ten spots in the FNCS All-Star Showdown.

Here is the Solo All-Star Play-In format:

Round 1

  • Open to all eligible Champion League Players
  • Europe, NAE, NAW, and Brazil – Top 2,000 players advance to Round 2
  • Asia, OCE, and Middle East – Top 1,000 players advance to Round 2

Round 2

Round 3

Skills Challenges (June 23-25)

Once the final ten FNCS All-Star Showdown participants earn their position, it’s time to kick the weekend off with the Skills Challenges. With the help of BLAST, Epic Games has constructed a weekend of intriguing competitions, where the best of the best in competitive Fortnite will test their Building, Editing and Aiming skills against one another in a bracket-style faceoff. Map creators ImmatureGamer, Enigma, and Dummblond helped meticulously develop an entire Creative Hub and a slew of maps.

Here is the general format for all Skills Challenge competitions according to Epic Games:

  • Eight players per competition
  • Double-elimination bracket
  • Top three teams for FNCS Season 5 and Season 6 will designate one person from their respective trios to compete
  • Two additional players from each region have received an invitation to fill the remaining spots in each Skills Challenge
  • Winning players will advance through the upper bracket while the losing players will move on to the lower bracket
  • A player will be eliminated from the applicable Skills Challenge if they lose a matchup while in the lower bracket
  • Once a single player is left in the upper bracket and the lower bracket, those players will compete in the finals for that Skills Challenge
  • To win a Skills Challenge finals, the player in the lower bracket must win two matches while the player in the upper bracket will only need to win one match
  • Only qualified or invited players to the FNCS All-Star Showdown Skills Challenges are eligible for prizes

Challenges Breakdown

Now, let’s look at the Skills Challenges that Epic has prepared for the FNCS All-Star Showdown weekend. Remember, fans and viewers can load into these Creative maps and experience them first-hand.

June 23: 1v1 Edit – Blueprint Battle (Creative Code: 3840-8537-4348)
Participants will square off in an edit course challenge, where only one can claim the title of “fastest editor in Fortnite.”

June 23: 1v1 Aim – Bullseye Bonanza (Creative Code: 9420-6335-1309)
Aiming comes at a premium in Fortnite and is arguably one of the most critical factors. The Bullseye Bonanza tests each player’s aiming skills. They’ll need to fire at targets quickly to progress through the map.

June 24: 1v1 Build – High Tier (Creative Code: 3947-8128-3885)
The High Tier challenge tasks players with tunneling, cranking 90s and waterfalling efficiently. Only the quickest participants will move on in the bracket.

June 25: 3v3 Play for Keeps (Creative Code: 5892-6942-6261)
It wouldn’t be a weekend of fun without a trios competition of sorts, considering it’s the tournament standard in Fortnite Battle Royale. The Skill Challenge portion concludes with a 3v3 “Play for Keeps” competition. The top four FNCS teams in each region will go head-to-head in a single-elimination bracket in this mode. The objective is to secure the “Play for Keeps Llama” and hold it to earn points while others attempt to steal it back.

FNCS All-Star Solo Championship Format & Scoring System (June 26)

After the Skills Challenges conclude, players must prepare for the weekend’s main event — the FNCS All-Star Solo Championship. One hundred of the world’s best Fortnite players in each of the seven server regions will battle for ultimate supremacy and a share of $3M USD. Finalists will compete in six matches to determine the best solo player of the weekend, thus crowning themselves the FNCS All-Star Solo Champion. As an added incentive, players can pocket extra cash should they finish with the most eliminations.
