Week 23 in review: OnePlus Nord CE 5G official, WWDC kicks off

Jun 14, 2021

As we reach another week’s end it’s time to recap the major events from the past seven days.

Apple kicked off its Worldwide developer congress with a lengthy online keynote. The newly unveiled iOS 15 as well as iPadOS, tvOS and watchOS brought few major changes. And the MacBook Pro and M1X chip announcements that were tipped didn’t happen, despite later leaks showing the M1X tag in official Apple promo images.

OnePlus announced a more affordable version of its popular Nord 5G. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G starts at €299/INR 22,999 and improves on the battery and main camera of its more premium sibling, making up for a compelling offer.

Sony announced the second generation of its truly wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation – €280 WF-1000XM4. We reviewed and loved them for the smaller size and upgrades across the board from their predecessors.

Samsung announced a new 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor that has the world’s smallest pixels at 0.64μm. It will produce 12.5MP images in “every smartphone, from mid-range to flagship” and should appear in phones soon.

Those were the key stories of the week, while the full list is below. See you next one!

Will the two Pro models get a similar (if toned down) color?

Quality and yield issues are to blame.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G brings the same core experience at an even more aggressive price.

The dual-circle setup brings four cameras to the show.

Apple announced some changes with core iOS apps, Facetime revamped, playing catch-up with Android.

The phone is going to cost INR22,999 in India, which is the equivalent of $315.

The company has celebrated with a unique cake.

The first non-Qualcomm powered OnePlus could be launching soon.

The phone runs on a Unisoc SC9863A chipset with an octa-core CPU.

The buds have redesigned hardware and a better chipset to improve audio quality to and from the buds, as well as enable a few clever features.

The brick could also be for power-hungry laptops, but Infinix does not sell those.

The phone scored about 526K on the benchmarking app.

We will get multiple RAM variants of the FE to choose from.

All apps will continue to work after the update, even on older Honor phones.

The sensor packs 0.64μm pixels and Double Super PD.

It’s unclear why the company decided to go with this particular name.

The new version of the tablet-focused software will be released this fall.

Samsung is preparing to launch another M-series phone with a 6,000 mAh battery.

It can monitor health data.

There are some visual improvements to the UI as well.

Light violet, black, beige and green.
