ESTNN recaps the first-ever and perhaps last-ever Bugha’s Late Game Tournament.

Poetic is the perfect word to describe the last two weeks for Fortnite’s only Solo World Cup Champion — Kyle “SEN Bugha” Giersdorf. Two years ago to the day, the relatively unknown 16-year-old competitive Fortnite marched into the Arthur Ashe Stadium and claimed the inaugural Fortnite World Cup Championship and the $3M USD grand prize. Bugha became a gaming and esports icon. Two years later, his legacy grew to another level when Epic Games immortalized him in Fortnite with a cosmetic set as part of the ICON Series.

On top of becoming an in-game outfit, Bugha also worked with Epic Games to develop a new competitive game mode to simulate Fortnite’s chaotic end games. Dubbed “Bugha’s Late Game,” it became an instant classic amongst the entire competitive scene. The new playlist culminated in a multi-regional tournament with $100K USD in prize money. Each region’s best teams competed in two rounds hoping to earn a piece of the sizable prize pool. However, only seven could call themselves the best of their respective turf.

Europe

No other word better describes the team of GUILD Hen, GUILD JannisZ and Chapix than dominant. This European team has been nearly unstoppable for the last three seasons outside of a few unfortunate tournament experiences. They secured the coveted Axe of Champions in Chapter 2 – Season 5 and have been arguably the world’s best trio. Hen, JannisZ and Chapix continue that trend in Bugha’s Late Game Tournament, where they lapped the field effortlessly. The three Fortnite stars reached an unfathomable 902 points.

That performance included five Victory Royales out of ten matches and 80 eliminations. It’s merely another page in the book of Fortnite’s best trio, and the three received $14K USD for their efforts.

Perennial contenders Falcon Andilex, Vitality Snayzy and xsweeze.mces earned themselves another impressive placement in the challenging European region. Their ten-game effort produced four Victory Royales and 71 eliminations. Despite finishing miles behind the winners, the French trio walked away with $6.5K USD. The Russian and Ukrainian combination of Kiryache32, EvovzA Stormyrite and Gambit Toose settled for third place with 710 points.

NA East

Since winning the UEFA 2020 Euro Fortnite Cup, TNG Eomzo has been making waves in the NA East scene. He joined the duo of 33 nut and TNG chukky—two players that performed well in FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 6. Eomzo, nut and chukky certainly weren’t favorites to win Bugha’s Late Game Tournament, which makes their victory all the more impressive. With Eomzo streaming the entire event, he and his teammates rallied to 896 points, six Victory Royales and an outstanding average placement of 2.30 in the final round. The next stop for these three is FNCS Season 7, and they are gaining steam at the right time.

Another underrated trio finished 80 points behind first and had an equally impressive tournament run. 9LIVES Voil, Xccept and K2G Snake managed three Victory Royales across ten matches and 73 eliminations en route to 816 points. This long-standing trio seems to always lurk on the leaderboard and finally earned a breakthrough performance.
